Sectioning hair when straightening with a flat iron?

Okay, so I have really thick hair...and i'm not sure how I should section it when I straighten :S

Any tips on how to do it?

I have this same problem, but it's relatively easy with some cheap claw-style clips. Pros use the long sectioning clips, but they can be pricier and hard to find. Claw style clips are cheap and can be found almost everywhere. I have pretty short hair, so I only use one.

First, while holding open the clip, I perform a sweep- pulling most of my hair on one side of my head up to the top. I then use a brush to pull out a thin layer of hair then use my flat iron. Brush out another layer, straighten, repeat.

Once I have all of the hair brushed from the clip, I repeat the procedure on the other side. Sometimes, I may have to reinforce the straightening on the top ';layer'; of hair after everything else is done, but the most important thing to remember is to work in sections and layers- your iron can only handle so much at once!

More helpful advice: make sure your hair is bone-dry before you attempt to flat-iron it. Before you blow dry, however, be sure to apply a heat-activated lotion (I use Got 2 B Crazy Sleek Blow dry lotion). When you are drying the hair, do the very best you can to ';blow it'; in the direction it will be styled later on. This will save you a lot of heartache trying to get your hair to ';lay'; properly after you're done styling.

The best way is to start at the bottom and sides then work your way to the top.You can use bobby pins, a ponytail ring or duck bill clips to hold the rest of your hair while you straighten it.

as you go along make sure to put some thermal heat type protection to prevent breakage and damage to your hair also be sure to check the temp on the flat irons to make sure they are not too hot

happy new year
depending on the length of the plate divide it into sections 1 to 4 inches %26amp; depending on thickness also consider a layer as sections
Section your hair into about four or five sections.

Keep the parts that you're not straightening pulled back with hair clips.
